Designer Jasper Hou has created a concept LED light that is powered by a mechanical timer. This light has a winding base. The energy from the cranking mechanism will power the LED bulb for a given period of time. The light is still in concept phase. Lighting that uses the cranking mechanism has a huge potential since they provide an environmentally friendly and safe alternative for candles and tea lights.

Design student, Mae Yokoyama, from Konstfack University in Sweden has created a necklace which illuminates using solar energy. The collar of the necklace is made up of solar panels. The solar panels save energy from the sun during day time. When the sun goes down the necklace illuminates bringing out its real beauty.
